Community Health Worker opportunities are available for qualified professionals to support a research study across Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii, and Kisumu counties. The role is ideal for experienced community health professionals with a background in participant follow-up, counseling, and research activities.

The successful candidates will play an important role in supporting study participants through follow-up visits, data collection, counseling, home visits, and ensuring compliance with study protocols. This position requires strong communication skills, ethical conduct, and the ability to work independently while maintaining accurate study records.

The position also involves regular travel within assigned study areas using a motorcycle, making it suitable for individuals who possess a valid motorcycle riding licence and are comfortable working in community settings.

  1. Community Health Worker – Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii and Kisumu

The Community Health Worker will be responsible for supporting study implementation by collecting quality data, following up study participants, conducting home visits, maintaining study records, and ensuring that research activities are completed according to the approved study protocol. The role requires close collaboration with supervisors and other study staff to ensure the successful delivery of project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect accurate information from study participants in accordance with the standards and guidelines outlined in the study protocol.
  • Schedule and prepare work plans for participant follow-up visits and reminders.
  • Report study-related adverse events to supervisors promptly.
  • Administer all relevant Case Report Forms (CRFs) appropriately while ensuring that all interview questions are completed correctly.
  • Review questionnaires after every interview to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain clean, accurate, and comprehensive records of all study visits and outcomes.
  • Conduct debriefing sessions with study participants after completing interviews.
  • Adhere strictly to project timelines and deadlines for assigned duties.
  • Use motorcycles to conduct study-related field activities as assigned by supervisors.
  • Take responsibility for the security, maintenance, and renewal of the motorcycle licence.
  • Remind study participants of upcoming scheduled visits.
  • Conduct home visits for participants who miss their scheduled appointments.
  • Attend all weekly meetings on time and provide updates on work progress.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the project team.
  • Perform any other duties assigned or delegated by the Deputy Study Coordinator.
  • Fill in for other site staff members whenever necessary.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should meet the following mandatory requirements:

  • Diploma in Community Health and Development, Nutrition, Social Work, or another relevant qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid motorcycle riding licence.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Ability to prepare brief reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Three years of working experience as a counselor.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
  • Ability to work professionally and ethically while demonstrating competence, accountability, and integrity.
  • Ability to build trust and maintain open communication with study participants.
  • Good problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Experience in participant follow-up and tracing.
  • Experience working with infants.
  • Experience in HIV counseling.
  • Experience with data entry.
  • Previous experience working in a research environment.
