The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) is a constitutional body established to develop a culture of human rights through the promotion and protection of rights and fundamental freedoms in Kenya. As an independent National Human Rights Institution, KNCHR serves as a watchdog over the government in the area of human rights and provides leadership in ensuring that Kenya moves towards a human rights-respecting state.
KNCHR operates through five directorates: Complaints and Investigations, Research, Advocacy and Outreach, Legal Services, Regional Services, and Corporate Services. With offices in Nairobi, Wajir, Kitale, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nyahururu, KNCHR is at the forefront of advocating for and protecting human rights across Kenya.

1. Deputy Director – Legal Services
Reference: KNCHR/ADM/DDLA/06/2025
Location: Nairobi (with occasional travel)
Contract: 5-Year Renewable
Gross Salary: Kshs. 281,950

Job Purpose
The Deputy Director – Legal Services will be responsible for coordinating, developing, and implementing policies, procedures, and strategies related to legal services, ensuring the Commission achieves its objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the formulation and implementation of legal policies, frameworks, and strategies.
- Ensure compliance with legal frameworks within the Commission.
- Provide legal advice and oversee contract management.
- Coordinate the preparation of legal reports and proposals for resource mobilization.
- Represent the Commission in high-level national, regional, and international meetings.
- Supervise staff and manage the division’s financial resources.
2. Senior Public Education & Training Officer
Reference: KNCHR/ADM/SPETO/07/2025
Location: Nairobi (with occasional travel)
Contract: Permanent and Pensionable
Gross Salary: Kshs. 141,950
Job Purpose
This role involves conducting training on human rights issues for both state and non-state actors, preparing training materials, and raising public awareness of human rights.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop training curricula, manuals, and materials.
- Conduct public education and awareness sessions.
- Prepare reports and proposals for resource mobilization.
- Supervise and mentor junior officers, interns, and attachments.
- Enhance partnerships with human rights organizations.
- Develop Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials.
3. Internal Audit and Risk Officer
Reference: KNCHR/ADM/IARO/08/2025
Location: Nairobi (with occasional travel)
Contract: Permanent and Pensionable
Gross Salary: Kshs. 100,025
Job Purpose
This role supports the internal audit and risk management functions to enhance the Commission’s efficiency and effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct risk assessments and audits.
- Prepare and maintain audit documentation.
- Assess the effectiveness of governance and risk management.
- Document audit findings and reports.
4. Assistant Director – Internal Audit and Risk (Re-advertisement)
Reference: KNCHR/ADM/ADIAR/01/2025
Location: Nairobi (with occasional travel)
Contract: Permanent and Pensionable
Gross Salary: Kshs. 205,850

Job Purpose
The Assistant Director – Internal Audit and Risk will coordinate and implement policies, strategies, and guidelines for internal audit and risk management within the Commission.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and guide audit and risk teams.
- Oversee audit reports and ensure quality standards.
- Develop audit strategies and policies.
- Provide guidance on compliance and risk assessment.
