About the Program/Department/Team
The Operations Department at Mercy Corps is focused on delivering excellent support services to the programs and field offices. We are committed to ensuring efficient procurement, logistics, and administrative functions that are aligned with donor requirements and organizational standards. Every support service provided contributes directly to the timely and effective delivery of aid to the communities we serve.
About the Position
The Driver plays a critical role within the Operations Department by ensuring the safe and efficient transport of personnel, equipment, and materials. This position is based in Marsabit and requires adherence to Mercy Corps and Kenyan traffic regulations at all times. The Driver supports the field activities by providing dependable mobility services essential for the effective implementation of programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate Mercy Corps vehicles as assigned by the supervisor.
- Maintain accurate vehicle log-sheets in compliance with Mercy Corps regulations.
- Conduct routine vehicle checks and report any maintenance needs to the logistics team.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and communication protocols.
- Safeguard all vehicle-related equipment, including tools, first aid kits, and spare parts.
- Maintain vehicles in a clean, well-fueled, and ready-to-use condition at all times.
- Provide logistical support as needed within the office.
- Assist staff and visitors during field assignments and troubleshoot transportation issues.
- Report all vehicle maintenance needs regularly to transport management.
- Prepare and submit monthly fuel consumption and vehicle maintenance reports.
- Represent Mercy Corps professionally and ethically at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

- Works Directly With: Program and Operations Teams

Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills
- A valid Kenyan driver’s license and a valid certificate of good conduct.
- An O-level certificate is considered an added advantage.
- Computer literacy is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience, preferably with an NGO.
- Proficiency in operating 4×4 vehicles.
- Strong familiarity with Marsabit County, especially North Horr region.
- Ability to drive safely in insecure and remote locations.
- Good understanding of English and fluency in Swahili.
- Knowledge of other local languages spoken in Marsabit is an added advantage.

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions
This position is based in Marsabit and requires up to 40% travel within country programs, including insecure areas with limited amenities. Housing is provided in individual accommodations with access to good medical services and a generally high standard of living.
