Main Responsibilities
As a Theatre Technician, you will play a key role in ensuring surgical procedures are conducted in a safe, sterile, and well-prepared environment. You will be responsible for supporting surgical teams, maintaining theatre equipment, and preparing patients and instruments before and after surgeries.
Your duties will include:
- Checking and confirming that all anaesthetic machines are tested for leakage and are in good working condition before surgery.
- Maintaining the operating room, ensuring all tools, machines, and work areas are clean, organized, and fully functional before surgical operations begin.
- Cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing surgical instruments and equipment following every procedure.
- Preparing surgical instruments and materials for autoclaving/sterilization according to hospital protocol.
- Assisting in patient preparation by cleaning or shaving the area of the body being operated on.
- Maintaining the sterility and order of all surgical tools throughout the surgical process.
- Keeping all medical equipment clean, functional, and ready for use.
- Managing and maintaining inventory of necessary surgical supplies in the operating room.
- Supporting the patient pre- and post-operatively through disinfection and wound area preparation.
- Preparing surgical equipment and tools ahead of each procedure.
- Transporting patients to the operating room and assisting in their positioning on the surgical table.
- Offering continuous assistance during surgical procedures by passing instruments to surgeons and other members of the surgical team.
- Performing specific support functions such as cutting sutures, managing breathing equipment, and organizing surgical tools.
- Restocking and sterilizing the operating room after surgery.
- Handling laboratory specimens correctly, ensuring safe delivery to the laboratory and proper disposal of waste material.
- Working in close coordination with surgeons, nurses, and laboratory teams to ensure smooth surgical operations.
- Performing post-operative cleaning and disinfecting of the operating room area after every procedure.
- Reporting any damaged or malfunctioning equipment and instruments for repair or replacement.
- Carrying out any other relevant duties assigned by the Theatre In-Charge as needed to support the functioning of the surgical unit.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Theatre Technology
- Minimum of 2 years of work experience post-qualification in a theatre setting
- Experience working as an Anaesthetic Assistant is highly desirable
