Overall Responsibility
Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, the Pharmaceutical Technologist will be responsible for providing effective, efficient, and quality pharmacy services within the outreach health centers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive prescriptions, review them for appropriateness, and dispense medications in a timely and accurate manner according to approved standards and procedures.
  • Identify, discuss, and resolve any inaccuracies or illegibility issues with prescribers, documenting errors and communicating corrections with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Verify the expiry dates of all medications prior to dispensing.
  • Ensure that every medication label contains the correct patient details, drug name, dosage, quantity, and instructions for use.
  • Prepare extemporaneous formulations and mix intravenous medications in line with standard operating procedures.
  • Counsel patients on drug administration and the correct use of medical devices to ensure optimal treatment outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate stock levels by adhering to inventory management guidelines such as the ABC-VEN classification, re-order levels, and First Expiry First Out (FEFO) rules.
  • Monitor stock availability, including formulary drug shortages, slow-moving items, and drugs nearing expiry, and take appropriate action in consultation with the team.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental health and safety regulations in the handling, storage, and dispensing of medications.

Assistant Teacher – Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi Junior School

Role Summary
