About the Internship
The internship is offered through the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), which serves as the UN headquarters in Africa. UNON provides administrative, conference, security, information, and support services to several United Nations agencies, including the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the Resident Coordination System (RCS), and other UN offices operating in Kenya.
The selected intern will be attached to the Joint Medical Services (JMS) located in Gigiri, Nairobi.
Interns will work five days per week, totaling 35 hours each week, under the supervision of a designated JMS Senior Nurse.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful intern will support the implementation of the Joint Medical Services Wellness Programme and perform the following responsibilities under supervision:
- Assist in preparing health and wellness communication materials.
- Support health promotion and staff wellness outreach activities.
- Participate in Healthy U campaigns.
- Assist during fitness promotion initiatives.
- Support group wellness challenge activities.
- Provide administrative support for wellness programmes and activities.
- Promote healthy nutrition awareness among staff.
- Support nutrition-based wellness initiatives.
- Assist in publishing health awareness information through:
- The JMS website.
- Online newsletters.
- Social media platforms.
- Assist in collecting health-related data.
- Support data analysis activities.
- Participate in research activities.
- Assist with monitoring and evaluation of wellness programmes.
- Support surveys and interviews.
- Contribute to report writing.
- Assist in preparing recommendations and presentations.
- Promote public health awareness initiatives.
- Support interventions aimed at preventing and controlling infectious disease outbreaks.
- Provide administrative support to the HIV Workplace Programme.
- Support activities related to the annual UN Run.
- Assist with Children’s HIV training programmes.
- Support other wellness and programme-related activities as assigned.
- Utilize the internship experience to achieve the learning objectives established by the sponsoring university or institution.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must satisfy at least one of the following requirements at the time of application:
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme leading to a second university degree or higher.
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
- Have already graduated with a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent qualification.
