About the Role
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is offering an internship opportunity within the Joint Operations and Support Programme (JOSP) for Somalia, based in Nairobi. The position provides a unique chance to gain hands-on experience in environmental management, programme coordination, and operational support within a post-conflict and development context.
Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager, the intern will support the Somalia Programme in delivering environmental initiatives and operational activities under JOSP. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting in the coordination and implementation of environmental and natural resource management projects.
- Supporting the preparation of project reports, briefs, and presentations.
- Helping compile and analyze data to support environmental assessments and progress tracking.
- Contributing to project monitoring, evaluation, and knowledge management efforts.
- Assisting in organizing meetings, workshops, and stakeholder consultations.
- Providing administrative and logistical support to programme teams.
- Conducting desk research and contributing to the development of communication and outreach materials.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor to ensure effective project delivery.

This internship offers valuable exposure to UNEP’s field operations and programme management processes. The intern will gain a better understanding of how environmental and sustainability initiatives are implemented in fragile and recovery settings, particularly within Somalia.
