The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights has announced new career opportunities for qualified professionals seeking to contribute to the promotion and protection of human rights in Kenya.
KNCHR is a constitutional commission established under Article 59 of the Constitution of Kenya and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights Act, 2011. The Commission plays a critical national role in advancing a culture of human rights through research, advocacy, public education, investigations, legal intervention, and outreach.
As an independent National Human Rights Institution guided by the United Nations Paris Principles, KNCHR continues to provide leadership in strengthening human rights protection, accountability, justice, and constitutionalism across Kenya.
The Commission has offices in Nairobi, Wajir, Kitale, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nyahururu, and is now inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for seven vacant positions.

1. Director – Research, Advocacy and Outreach

Gross Salary: KES 406,750 per month
This role provides strategic leadership for KNCHR’s research, advocacy, and outreach programmes.
The Director will guide the development and implementation of policies, strategies, standards, and operational frameworks that support the Commission’s mandate in human rights promotion and protection.
Key Duties
- Provide strategic leadership on research, advocacy and outreach programmes
- Direct implementation of directorate programmes and strategic priorities
- Oversee preparation of statutory, periodic and alternative human rights reports
- Coordinate development of advisories, communiqués, memoranda and research tools
- Lead follow-up on implementation of Commission recommendations
- Coordinate monitoring and evaluation of directorate performance
- Mobilize resources and oversee directorate budget utilization

2. Deputy Director – Finance & Accounts

The Deputy Director – Finance & Accounts will coordinate all finance and accounting operations at the Commission.
The office supports financial planning, budget development, expenditure management, financial reporting and compliance with government financial regulations.
Key Duties
- Formulate and review finance and accounting policies
- Advise KNCHR on finance and accounting matters
- Ensure compliance with the Public Finance Management Act and related regulations
- Coordinate budget preparation and implementation
- Monitor financial performance and advise management accordingly
- Oversee preparation of financial reports, statements and statutory accounts
- Review expenditure trends and financial commitments
- Coordinate external audits and responses to audit queries
- Support fundraising and resource mobilization discussions

Key Duties
- Supervise implementation of supply chain policies and procedures

Key Duties
- Lead implementation of regional office programmes and activities
- Coordinate regional office work plans and budgets
- Guide identification of region-specific human rights concerns
- Support complaint handling and investigations
- Coordinate strategic partnerships with state and non-state actors

- Support implementation of regional office projects

- Promote complaint resolution through ADR or court processes
- Prepare quarterly, bi-annual and annual programme reports

This role provides legal and programmatic support in the Commission’s regional human rights work.
Key Duties
- Screen petitioners and receive complaints from victims of human rights violations
- Analyze case files and recommend appropriate action
- Offer legal advice and representation on human rights matters
- Prepare legal opinions and advisories
- Support public education and awareness on human rights themes
- Participate in field investigations and legal research
- Prepare reports arising from investigations and interventions
- Offer legal counsel to complainants on available remedies
- Refer complaints outside the Commission’s mandate to relevant agencies
- Maintain communication with petitioners regarding complaint progress
