As the Legal Counsel, Commercial, you will play a central role in safeguarding the legal interests of the organization through strategic legal counsel, contract management, and oversight of commercial engagements. You will work directly under the Head Counsel, Commercial, managing a designated legal portfolio covering key areas such as contract negotiation, legal awareness training, probate matters, and general commercial legal services.

Key Responsibilities
As the Legal Counsel, Commercial, your main duties will include:
Contract Management and Commercial Law Support
- Provide legal support to business units in the preparation, review, and management of contracts including leases and other commercial agreements.
- Drive the contract lifecycle from initial drafting to final execution, ensuring legal compliance and risk mitigation.
- Support business teams in developing productive and compliant relationships with vendors and contractors.
Product and Procurement Processes
- Oversee legal support in the product gate process, including participation in tender opening sessions.
- Facilitate legal input in supplier evaluation exercises and broader business project initiatives.
Legal Opinions and Research
- Offer timely and well-reasoned legal opinions on commercial contracts being negotiated or implemented.
- Conduct research to provide clarity on legal and regulatory requirements related to commercial transactions.
Legal Awareness Training
- Develop and deliver training sessions to internal teams on key commercial legal issues.
- Enhance overall legal literacy across departments to foster compliance and proactive legal risk management.
Probate Administration
- Manage and oversee probate accounts in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
- Support the bank in succession matters relating to deceased clients’ accounts and legal documentation.
Data Management and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to contracts, probate cases, and legal activities.
- Track and report key legal statistics to inform internal decision-making and strategy.
The Person
The ideal candidate should be a results-oriented legal professional with demonstrated experience in corporate legal affairs, contract negotiation, and risk management. Candidates should have a keen eye for detail, exceptional legal drafting skills, and the ability to communicate legal matters clearly to both legal and non-legal stakeholders.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law.
- Diploma in Law.
- At least 4 years of experience in legal practice, with a strong emphasis on commercial and corporate law.
- A minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in legal drafting.
- 4 years of experience in Corporate Governance.
- 3 years of experience in Risk Management.
- 3 years of experience in legal communication and advocacy.
